About the Role

You will develop a comprehensive regulatory compliance framework and be responsible for implementing and maintaining processes, systems and controls to ensure Paystack’s compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
The ideal candidate will come from “start-up” like environments, be mission-driven, a clear communicator with a solid background in the payments space.
The role is remote-friendly with frequent travel to Lagos, Nigeria, required. You will be reporting directly to the CEO.

What You’ll be Doing

Develop, implement and maintain a global framework of policies and procedures for managing and mitigating operational and compliance risks, in line with laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions
Design and implement relevant compliance processes including know your customer (KYC), anti-money laundering (AML), sanctions and combatting the financing of terrorism (CFT)
Perform risk assessments to understand risk level, significance and scope to our operations
Master a deep understanding of the rules and regulations governing each market in which we operate, including monitoring any changes and developments
Oversee the gathering of internal information to meet external regulatory reporting obligations
Supervise the fulfillment of all record keeping requirements
Investigate irregularities and non-compliance issues
Act as a point-of-contact for all employees on issues relating to money laundering, terrorist financing and receive reports on non-compliance with laws or company policies
Compile regular reports on risk and compliance performance that can be shared with management or the board of directors so that issues can be rectified
Support our product and market expansion initiatives by overseeing efforts to apply for new licenses where needed
Ensure regular information dissemination and coordinate training across the company on compliance issues
Review marketing materials, presentations and websites to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Oversee any internal and external audits or regulatory examinations
Manage third party vendor risk reviews and vendor due diligence
Collaborate with other departments to create a culture of compliance across the company

Requirements
What it takes to succeed:

8+ years in a senior regulatory and compliance role
Experience in payments/financial services
Ability to develop deep relationships with regulators (Central Banks or other regulatory bodies) across multiple jurisdictions
Excellent sense of judgment – able to help steer the company to balance innovation and growth with regulatory compliance
Critical problem-solving skills
Ability to thrive, adapt and embrace change in rapidly-changing regulatory environments
Deep knowledge of global payments compliance regulation – PCI DSS, PSD2, GDPR, card scheme rules etc.

While this is not a requirement, it would be a plus if you have:

Master’s Degree in either economics/business/law (preferred)
Relevant course, done through ICA (International Compliance Association)
Experience in Nigeria (or Africa)
ACAMS certification

Responsibilities
What you’ll be doing:

You’ll:

Build long-term relationships with your contacts at mid-market and enterprise companies – especially those headquartered in China and help them understand how to best leverage Paystack’s powerful product suite to meet their business objectives
Research various sectors to better understand the competitive landscape of those industries, as well as both the threats and opportunities available to your portfolio companies
Analyse internal and external datasets to glean insights for various uses
Solve tricky tier 2 support issues which are escalated by the support team
Represent Paystack at industry events, fairs, webinars, and demos
Serve on one or more Product teams, using your insights from the field to inform product prioritization and product development

What it takes to succeed in the role
You:

Are an excellent writer and speaker of BOTH English and Mandarin, able to take complex ideas and explain them in plain, compelling language
Have experience in a client-facing role, preferably at a technology company, with a track record of top performance
Are able to analyse large amounts of data, identify useful patterns, and make recommendations based on your observations
Have a sophisticated commercial sense and are able to quickly understand the underlying drivers and strategy of our customer’s businesses

Senior Finance Analyst at Paystack

Job Title: Senior Finance Analyst

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

About the Senior Finance Analyst Role

As Senior Finance Analyst at Paystack, you’ll be working on daily reconciliation of transactions processed on Paystack, managing merchant receivables, and validation of bank statements and balances.
Other responsibilities include monthly accounting entries for P&L, balance sheet, and cash flows. You should be well versed in reading and understanding financial statements, including budgets. You’ll also help implement and maintain a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in alignment with all financial policies and compliance requirements.
This is a full-time role is based in Paystack’s headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria and you’ll report directly to the Finance Lead.

Responsibilities
What you’ll be doing:

Conduct financial analyses and reporting – including forecasting, budgeting and monthly management accounts
Perform long term strategic planning exercises, including 3 statement financial modeling (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement)
Assist with daily finance operations including merchant settlements, bank & processor reconciliations
Monitor and forecast cash position, including working capital adjustments for receivables and payables
Liaise with partners (banks and processors) to ensure optimal cost structures and verify daily settlements
Perform and daily and weekly revenue recognition and cost optimization exercises
Oversee expense management via accounting tools (e.g. Xero) and ensure proper GL coding and processing of expenses
Ensure compliance of internal controls and suggest process improvements as needed
Overseeing processing of payables including vendor payments
Complete national and local (state) tax returns (incl. PAYE, VAT, WHT, CIT etc) and work with local tax advisors as needed for all our jurisdictions
Determine, document and implement the Company’s internal audit policies
Work with external auditors to perform the annual audits for all our jurisdictions
Assist with treasury management to ensure effective capital management across our entities
Provide training to new and existing staff, as needed
Support overall department goals and objectives
Fulfill other ad-hoc finance requests as requested by management

Requirements
What it takes to succeed:

You have minimum 5 years accounting experience within a multinational business or top tier accounting firm, and have mastery of IFRS accounting standards
You are highly proficient in MS Excel
You have fantastic written and spoken communication skills
You are able to work collaboratively across departmental functions
You have strong knowledge of internal controls and financial reporting
You have the appetite to jump headfirst into a fast-moving, fast-growing, mission-driven team that values creativity and output
